East Ballina, Shaws Bay, The Serpentine, Brighton Street Beach – whatever you want to call it. If you’re looking for a place to stay with an incredible waterside location, The Shaws Bay Holiday Park is perfectly positioned with lovely views over the Richmond River, crystal clear tidal bays and close to renowned surf beaches.
If you want to get away and spoil yourself, be sure to check out the Premium Cabins. These ultra- modern, architecturally designed cabins are a luxury oasis located right on the waterfront. The ceiling to floor windows will immerse you in nature as you enjoy the galley style, fully-equipped kitchen which flows seamlessly through to the outdoor dining area on the verandah. Stunningly decorated with a boutique feel, it offers a luxury home away from home stay. You are ‘shaw‘ to love it here!
The park also has powered and unpowered camp sites and a range of cabins on offer. Bring the whole family including the family dog. Dogs are permitted at Reflections Holiday Park Shaws Bay year round.
WATERFRONT PUB GRUB
The Shaws Bay hotel or ‘The Shawsy’ if you ask a local, is a popular pub right on the water, next door to historic Fenwick House (a private residence). It’s open for lunch and dinner 7 days and the back beer garden has panoramic views over the bay. The beach volley ball court, ‘pirate’ ship wreck and beach offer plenty of activities to enjoy with friends and family. Their famous Sunday Session live music is very popular with locals and visitors.
Swim in the calm, salt water tidal bay at Shaws or walk under the bridge to discover the ideal spot for kids to splash with shelter from the sun and the waves at The Serpentine. There is fantastic snorkelling in Shaws Bay itself, with plenty of fish to be spotted.
SHOP FOR FARM FRESH PRODUCE
Walk to the weekly farmers market held every Sunday morning across the Missingham Bridge at Commemoration Park. A great selection of local produce on offer and great options for breaky too. We highly recommend the duck pancake from the dumpling lady – totally devine. Enjoy casual dining beside the river at the market and be entertained by a local musician. It was the best way to kick off a Sunday morning.
Walk or cycle the North Wall at Sunset and watch the fishing trawlers head out to sea and spot the dolphins playing in the river. It’s also the perfect place to cast in a line or two.
Take the kids across the bridge to Missingham Park for fun at the undercover playground (great on hot and rainy days) or carve up some moves at the Skate Park right on the riverfront.
Hint – Bus it from Shaws Bay to Byron, enjoy hassle free travel, avoid the paid parking in Byron and enjoy the coast along the way. The Blanch’s Bus 640 will pick up from Pine Avenue across the road from the bus shelter. For timetable go to: www.blanchs.com.au
